iPhone 5 coming in October, not September, according to latest source

Summary: September? October? These "sources with knowledge of the situation" should get their stories straight.

You know that Looney Tunes skit where Bugs and Daffy take turns flipping a sign so that it alternatively reads "Duck Season" and "Rabbit Season"? Well, the iPhone 5 rumors are starting to look a lot like that.

The latest iteration of the trend comes via AllThingsD, which reports that the next iPhone isn't slated for a September release at all. Instead, a source says Apple is eyeing an October date for the iPhone 5. Oh, and those memos wherein Apple denied employees September vacations? Completely unrelated, says the source. "I don't know why AT&T's calling for all hands on deck those weeks, but it's not for an iPhone launch," the source said.

September? October? These "sources with knowledge of the situation" should get their stories straight.

  • Apple running scared of The Mango....

I think the iPhone 5 is ready. I think Apple is delaying it as they are in a complete state of panic over the pending release of Windows Phone Mango. I have it on high confidence from my rep that Mango is going to crush Apple and wipe out iOS market share. Apple is delaying the release of iPhone 5 in a futile attempt to counter this pending doom. I went to the local AT&T store yesterday to pick up some more accessories for my Windows Phone. It was apparent to me that Windows Phone is taking the market. All of the customers were crowded around the iPhone and iPad displays, obviously not being allowed near the Windows Phone displays for fear of riot.

And after Mango we'll get the next Android iteration, "Chocolate Chip Cookie" and it's going to crush both fruits. :)

Funny but Mango has to beat Blackberry and HP before it can even dance with the big boys Apple and Google.

At least you made me laugh! thanks!!

@Hasam1991 Good point and from what I read a couple of months ago Android was taking most if it gains from Win devices (Windows Mobile and WP7), not from any of the others.

      Reality check in order.

Also noted this about Apple being the world largest Smartphone Manufacturer. Overtaking Nokia and Smasung.

Once again, I'm a day late (and more than a dollar short).

Folks, this was really well written satire. Check out the last sentence. I expect to see people jumping the gun on satirical posts on many sites - but you'd think that the reading comprehension level would be a little better amongst zdnet readers.

Anyway... Bravo Mr. Cox! Bravo! :)

@deusXmchna@ : Never mind the last sentence -- "satire" was splattered all over the place with the second sentence -- and I think most readers picked up on that rather quickly, even without your well-intentiioned, but nevertheless smugly delivered "clarification". Just because there was no landslide of "Oh, I get it" responses doesn't mean that wasn't the case.

@Mike Cox Oh my god, I read this 10 minutes ago and I am still laughing. Of course, what makes it even funnier was you were saying pretty much the exact same thing a year ago. Claiming that as soon as WP7 devices hit the market they would crush Apple and wipe out it's market share. I got a good laugh out of it last year but to repeat it a year later just make it all that funnier :-)

I know when it is being released: Fall 2011! Let's just keep it at that until Apple gives us an official release date.

Its an Iphone 5 that doesnt even have 4G speed capability..who cares its irrelevant and out of date before it is even released lol...Think it might at least get hdmi out?

    • RE: iPhone 5 coming in October, not September, according to latest source

@Fletchguy How do YOU know it does not have 4G? Do you have specs on it? I don't nor have I heard anything but rumors about it's specs. If you've got something concrete and verifiable put it on the table or stop spreading FUD.

      • RE: iPhone 5 coming in October, not September, according to latest source

@athynz Facts and concrete specs, yeah like fletchy would ever let those get in his way when it come to anything Apple. Besides that, other than spec sheet "mine is bigger than yours" behavior do all that many people really care about 4G? For most people they would never need it.

    @OP:
You said, "September? October? These ?sources with knowledge of the situation? should get their stories straight."

Maybe you guys should quit reporting about "sources with knowledge of the situation" until they "get their stories straight." Otherwise, you're just spreading around the what-if's and so-what's.

Give it a rest. Isn't there something else you can report on?
