Leaked photo of HTC Omega, the first WP7 'Mango' device [updated]

By | August 26, 2011, 12:12pm PDT

Summary: Could this be the HTC Omega (also known as Radar), rumored to be the first Windows Phone 7 “Mango” running smartphone?

Windows Phone 7 “Mango”-running smartphones are finally ready for consumers, with HTC expected to unveil two in a press event on September 1 in London — one of which could be the HTC Omega whose leaked photo was first posted on PocketNow.

According to PocketNow, the Omega will sport a single core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 SoC processor, have 512 MB RAM, a front-facing camera as well as an 8-megapixel rear camera. The white and silver Omega will either have 3.8-inch SLCD per PocketNow, or a massive 4.5-inch display like the Samsung Infuse 4G as my colleague James Kendrick believes. ThisIsMyNext is also suggesting that Omega is just a codename for Radar, just to add to the mystery and confusion on this little known, WP7 device.

No matter the size of the touchscreen or its moniker, the Omega/Radar and the rumored HTC Eternity will be phones to watch as more WP7 “Mango” devices surface this fall. I hope HTC will be bringing these handsets stateside so we can see how WP7 stacks up against Android, iOS and BlackBerry OS.

Updated: Corrected RAM from 512 GB to MB and added “Mango” to headline.

This also isn't "the first WP7 Mango device"- it's just the first one from HTC.

The first Mango device is already on the streets in Japan, Fujitsu IS-12T.

Could we please have more breathless coverage of this 1% market share phone OS? This is nowhere near disproportionate enough. Five, six articles a day should be the mandatory minimum. Come on! We're dying to hear more speculation about possible features of future products that might - or might not - someday launch but that we're not going to buy. We need to know, and we need to know now!
@symbolset Troll much? Believe it or not, there will be millions of people moving over to Windows Phone very soon. Windows Phone is of great interest and a hot topic for a reason. You can roll your eyes all you want, but that doesn't change the facts. As an iOS and Android user, I've got to say I can't wait to get my hands on a Nokia Windows Phone. I'm totally over HTC!

@General C# I found the WP7 theme song! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yop62wQH498
@General C# No Microsoft is using ZDNet as to advertise their products. Just like everyone else. The only real problem is that there is very little interest in Windows mobile products.

So true brother!
Why don't we just draw a line, like say, anything less than 10% marketshare, so we won't see any Mac OSX coverage?

1GHz dual-core is now the minimum. The hardware on this thing will be dated upon release. But the plastic will look crisp.

Nice looking phone.

@Return_of_the_jedi
for Android, it should be considering how laggy it is.

And don't tell me Android doesn't lag on dual-core, because I've seen plenty on the Atrix.
@day2die And you think this will not be laggy as hell? If it works as poorly as the current phone at the AT&T store, then it will be in the bargain bin within three months.
Please launch on T-Mobile!!!
Good Night!!!! 512 GB of RAM? That's huuuugggeee!.

I'm guessing you meant 512 MB of RAM.
@black_bart it might need 512GB of RAM; after all it is running Windows wink

Not a fan of white/silver phones, but it still looks nice non the less.
I believe you should change the wording to WP7 Mango. There are numerous WP7 phones sold by HTC.
