Lenovo’s answer to the iPad, the LePad, went through months of delays before finally being launched in one market, and now there’s already talk of another.

The first LePad was unveiled at CES 2010 last January. The 10.1-inch slate was expected to go on sale in China during the first quarter of 2010. However, it was subsequently pushed back to December, and finally to summer 2011 for the worldwide launch.

Now that the LePad is available in China, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing has revealed that a slimmer LePad will be rolled out in either September or October of this year. No other significant details were announced, but let’s hope that developers learned plenty from making the first model and can speed things up with the release of the second.

And of course there were the handheld mini tablet devices called a PADDs (pronounced pads) on Star Trek Next Generation (1987-1994) that looked kind of like 7" Galaxies - point goes to Roddenberry happy

Why
Hasam1991 29th Mar 2011
Why are they using the word 'Pad'???? trying to catch up to a certain company...
@Hasam1991, I believe there was a "Think" pad before there was any other "pad". Since Lenovo owns that trade name, are they trying to catch themselves?

YES But read the start of the article... Lenovo?s answer to the iPad, the LePad, went through months of delays before finally being launched in one market, and now there?s already talk of another.
@denisrs
Before iPad, there is ThinkPad, which IBM happily transferred to Lenova. Before ThinkPad there are mousepads and some of the digitizers were also called somethingPad. So who brought this Pad word into IT jargon, not Apple though.
