Speaking of a crowding tablet market, Lenovo's LePad, which has been floating around all year, is finally expected to ship starting in December.

According to Engadget, the Android-based LePad will first be released in China by the end of the year. No word when the 10.1-inch slate will see North America just yet, but there will be a second "hybrid" version, which is comprised of a keyboard and laptop parts. Specs on that are sparse, but Engadget predicts it will be Intel-based and run on Windows rather than Android.

It's hard to get excited over the LePad considering how little we know about it after this long. That combined with the debate over whether or not tablets should be running on Android (specifically Froyo), it could fill people with doubts.

What are you hoping to see out of the Lenovo LePad?

  • Released in China??

So why is this news. Not even basic specs are given and the claim is that it COULD be released in China by the end of the year. How many cheap products are released in China that name make a day of light anywhere else in the world?

Please let us know when things are going to be released for real .... not just tech gossip without substance.

the tech-press is getting desperate with the android slate invasion simply not happening. where are they? the ipad was introduced in january, there should have been plenty of time for the copycats. but no, all we have is a 5" and a 7" phone and lots of vaporware.

    • iPad was released in APRIL, not January

News official news about the iPad was released in late February. But the 1st production iPad was not released until April 2010.

Limits of Android for larger screens would clearly say win7 or the atom version of 7. I would hope that these different tablets can cross converse or this will be a disaster for all concerned. Are we all to be carrying "Tab-purses" ? Or will we hang them around our necks and speak bluetooth to them most of the time, output written and audio? Bigger is better for display, but for audio alone, give me small. To me this suggests 2 markets, not the middle ground - too small for serious visual navigation and too damn big for a phone.
