LG's LSM-100 mouse doubles as a scanner

Summary: Half mouse, half scanner, LG's new LSM-100 is a pretty compelling hybrid.

Like most home electronics, scanners (or scanner/printer/fax combos) take up too much space.

Which is why LG''s upcoming LSM-100 is such a big (or perhaps small) deal. One part mouse, one part scanner the LSM-100 works just as you'd expect: Users move the mouse over a document while holding its Smart Scan button. The scanned image can then be saved into the applicable file type, whether its text or photo. (You can get a pretty good idea of how it works in the video below.)

Best, because the device isn't constrained by size like a traditional scanner, users can use it to scan documents larger than what most portable scanners can handle. LG tops its capacity at A3 (16.5 x 11.7 in) sized-pages.

The LSM-100's mouse functionality probably speaks for itself, but LG says that it is both stylish, comfortable, and accurate. It's a mouse, after all.

Will marketing equal actual performance? I have my doubts to the accuracy and speed of this product. With so many promises of miracle scanners, scanner pens and OCRs I hav been burned like a consumer in a flaming ford pinto.<br>I will buy this product from a brick and mortar just so I don't have to pay for return shipping. As some of you know LG is Korean for Zenith. I do like the Korean products, not Ameican Zenith. Most Korean products rock; however most marketing staff tell lies.

If it does what they say it will, and the price is not out of this world, then I plan on getting one. A wireless combo would be great, but it probably sucks energy like a Dyson sucks dirt...

@Baldain Using your analogy, the batteries will last almost forever since Dyson is one of the worst vacuums made...

Is it wired, or wireless? What filetypes are supported? Price and launch date? Partners? There is not enough info in this 'ad.'

Does the device come with OCR software? And if so, which one?
I remember back in the olden days of the original hand scanners if you moved too fast, or you skewed your scanning then the scanned image looked like crap. I hope this turns out much better. It would be interesting to see this in action...especially if it works like it shows in this video...unfortunately, I doubt it does...for one thing, it shows the mouse/scanner to be scanning wireless....which we find out at the end, it really isn't...so if they're lying about that, what else are they lying about?

@tech_ed@... Seriously? In regard to your wireless comment.....it's a commercial, not a demo! Apparently, it's also controlled telepathically then (seeing as there is no physical human interaction with it. To be honest, I felt the same way......totally ripped off when I bought some frosted mini wheats. Those little squares never hopped out of my bowl and hung out on the counter chatting it up, like they do in the commercial.
