Logicomm CEO Jim Vance appears to have a Twitter account. But so does everyone these days.

What everyone doesn't have, of course, are tipsters who tell them that the Palm Pre smartphone will arrive on April 30, 2009, for the low, low price of $299. But we wouldn't know that, unless...

...Vance decided to tweet that information out to the world. D'oh!

Eagle-eyed Peter Ha at CrunchGear spotted the series of tweets:

@heeeyrold @dberube We do a lot of betas 4 Sprint. Also testing WiMax fones. Not sure if Pre is final. Release dte of 4/30, so I’m told..

@darthpooh79 Sprint claims that 4/30 is a line in the sand, according to my acct mgr there…he’s usually right on #Palm Pre

BTW - heard frm source (not Sprint) that Pre price tag 2 be $299 with 2 year ctrct…bet it’s $100 or so after all the hype wears off

Funny that Vance's Twitter account is now private. Hmm! Good thing his conversation partner's isn't:

...which makes me wonder about that line about Twitter and Pre (but hey, we're still pre-production, technically).

What do you think? Is April 30th soon enough? Is $299 a fair asking price for Pre?

  • $ 299.00 is the same price as the 16GB iPhone 3G (w/2yr. contract).

Guess Apple hardware ISN'T always more expensive!
    No More Microsoft Software Ever!
  • Too Much - Sprint and Palm need market share

They need volume and a mass of subscribers for the Pre to succeed -- at $299 they won't get that. If they halved it and came out at $149 they could get the kind of subscriber surge they need to sustain the phone as the first true iphone killer contender. At $299 they'll attract the technogeeks and early adopters with $$ burning holes in their pockets but the reality is most people, in this economy, are pinching pennies either here or there. Few will drop $299 on a phone AND get locked in for 2 years (myself included) no matter how cool the Pre appears to be. If it really is announced that it will be $299 then I'll go ahead and re-up with ATT or move to T-mobile on an android headset. I've been holding off on a new contract in order to jump to Sprint for the Pre, but I'm not dropping 3 hundred on it.

Is the $299 before or after the $100 mail-in rebate?

  • This will be a great phone but the iPhone is a juggernaut

It remains to be seen if Palm can steal back the momentum it squandered.

I went to the LOGICOMM web site, and I decided to call Mr. Van. The web site looks cheap, so I had doubts that the CEO of this company would know anything.

    Call Us: 401.354.2220

THE NUMBER IS INVALID... FOR THIS REASON I SUSPECT STRONGLY THAT THIS IS A HOAX.

I'll be a sucker who pays $300. I am a big fan of Pandora radio. They have been developing it for the Pre. It is on the iPhone but I don't buy apple. It is on some Windows smartphones but I don't really like those models. Also the 3rd party apps for the palm have so much potential. I just watched the video about the current apps. Though I don't have use for them, just hearing at how integrated they can be and how much developers have access to is amazing.

  • re: Pre for $299 - not me!

Oh, I'd love to get a Pre and soon! But I'm not gonna
drop $300 on it. I spent $249 on a Sprint Touch (the
original) and felt foolish when a few months later the
dang thing was going for $99.

I'll wait to see what the reviews say. I'll play with
one in the Sprint store. I may even wait until after
June to see what else Apple has. But the Sprint/Palm
combo doesn't inspire confidence to the tune of $299.

If I spend more than $100 on any phone ( without any 2 year lock-in ) just shoot me !!!

Maybe too little too late. If it has wimax, it might make it. Otherwise, Im a 10yr sprint guy thats gonna start on my 10 year ATT button.

  • More like $150 to $200

I do have friends at Sprint at a higher level and they say $150 to $200 final new customer, or new contract price
