Summary: Hoping to provide an alternative to boring old mice and touchpads, Logitech has introduced the new Wireless Trackball M570 with the company’s signature leave-in Unifying receiver.

Hoping to provide an alternative to boring old mice and touchpads, Logitech has introduced the new Wireless Trackball M570 with the company’s signature leave-in Unifying receiver.

The aim with the trackball is improved comfort when working as with a trackball, a user doesn’t need to move his or her arm when moving the cursor. It’s also much more portable as Logitech asserts that it can be used “wherever you want,” from desks to “lumpy beds.”

Additionally, the Unifying wireless receiver can stay put in the laptop, and the 2.4GHz wireless connection can survive from up to 30 feet away.

Some of the other additional touches include a scroll wheel plus back/forward button for further control. Finally, the M570 is powered by a single AA battery, producing a staggering 18 months of battery life.

Available in both the U.S. and Europe now, the M570 is retailing for $59.99 and €69.99 respectively. To see the Logitech Wireless Trackball M570 in action, check out the promo video below:

@NZJester: you might want to check out Kensington's trackballs. Their largest version is similar to what you described, though without the cool LEDs.

Stay simple......I use multi OS systems Unix, linux, open source,BSD,and windows.I use wired mice and they work fine.
Have they developed the drivers for all these systems yet..me thinks not?
The usual ripoff in pricing for Europe and probably Britain.
At current exchange rates $59.99=?47.14=?38.41. Add VAT at 20% as it is in much of Europe and soon in Britain the prices should be ?56.57 or ?45.13. Does anyone believe bulk shipping costs of ?10.42?

To bad NONE of my local stores carry ANY of the track balls! I
like to see it and be able to see how it feels in the hand BEFORE
purchasing it. Yes I can order it on line from Logitech but I don't
like doing it that way!!!!!! BTW local = Staples, Best Buy and Wal Mart.
I wish Logitech- or someone- would design one more along the lines of the marvelous (and discontinued) Microsoft Trackball Explorer!
@IH8FMS@...
I agree, I have owned one of the MS trackballs & don't want any other. This one seems to be the closest thing to it though.

You can find some of the originals on Ebay sometimes, but wait until you see the prices, even for refurbished units. This might be just the way to go.

I also love the MS. Trackball but the old style with ball in center & right & left click on the thumb side not either side of ball. My hand is small & it just fits comfortably. Tried others - not good for me. Ebay can be crazy, I was lucky to get an extra one last year for $35. First one was on sale for 24.99 ! I tried to find a trackball for laptop with same layout but to no avail!

Back in the 90's I used to have a lovely big trackball called a crystal ball. The ball in it was clear plastic the size of a snooker/pool ball and when you rolled the ball up or down the red LEDs under it would light it up and rolling left or right would light up green LEDs under it. Roll diagonal and the red and green together would make it go orange. I wish someone would come out with a modern USB version. I have tried small and thumb moved trackballs like this one but they are not as usable as the giant ball kind!
