As functional as ultra-slim mini Bluetooth keyboards for tablets may be, turning your slate into a real productivity machine, you would still need a stand to prop your device up while you type. Rather than invest in a foldable case-stand and separate keyboard, Logitech’s Fold-Up Keyboard for iPad 2 transforms into both a full-sized Bluetooth keyboard and stand that even fits with your Smart Cover attached.
When unfolded, the keyboard tucks neatly underneath your iPad 2 and clamps onto the edges of your device (as above). To turn your iPad 2 into a mini laptop, gently pull the two sides of the keyboard from underneath the device towards the center of your display in landscape mode, until the keyboard snaps into place. In doing so, it will also prop up your iPad 2 at the same time. Powered by an internal rechargeable battery, the keyboard comes with a USB cord for recharging.
I got to see the Fold-Up Keyboard in action at a meeting with Logitech, and was most impressed with this transforming keyboard and stand for iPad 2; after all, it’s not everyday you think of splitting a keyboard down the middle and piecing it back together like a puzzle, or that it could swivel to such an angle. That said, the unfolding process was rather noisy with the moving keys and parts clacking away until everything was in place, so this is not the stand to whip out when you’re late to a lecture hall or meeting. You’ve been warned.
