Those keeping tabs on Microsoft's highly-awaited Kin One and Kin Two handsets should be pleased as some new specs have popped up on the web - most notably some extra processing power.

Recently revealed after months of speculation under the code name "Project Pink," the Windows Phone is geared to a more youthful generation who will probably be using their handheld devices for various multimedia applications.

According to gdgt, both the Kin One and Two will host 600MHz processors and EV-DO broadband technology, making the NVIDIA Tegra-powered gadgets quite capable for running a great variety of apps. Buyers can also expect motion, light and proximity sensors. While it was known that these phones can record SD and HD video, respectively, it has been announced they'll be able to support MPEG-4, WMV and H.264 files.

The Kin One and Kin Two are set to be released on Verizon Wireless in May and on Vodafone in Europe this fall. If you can't wait until then to see what these phones can do, be sure to check out Matthew Miller's unboxing and hands-on review of both devices.

• 'highly-awaited'?

If anybody ever had any doubt that Zdnet is a Microsoft leaning propoganda
site, this will put an end to that!

No one, repeat no one, is waiting for these phones. Microsoft anything is not
sought after by the demographic these phones are targeting. When I mentioned
them to my nieces and nephews (in their late teens, early twenties) they looked
at me like I was nuts. First, they all want the iPhone, and second, to young
people, MS is a dinosaur.

Let's predict how well these phones will sell

let's see. When the Zune first came out, MS knew they had to claim it sold a
million in a year so it wouldn't be considered a failure. So the forced Amazon to
buy tons of them and they claimed they 'sold a million' in one year. Amazon
then had to put the Zune in their bargain basement bin to unload them.

So, MS will claim in a year that they sold a million of these already obsolete
phones. Then some smart reporter wiil ask how many were actually activated
and/or returned and MS house-of-cards sales figures will go bye bye

Wasn't it refreshing to see apple beat Ms yesterday as the second most valued
company on the S&P 500? I thought it wouldn't happen til July, and because of
different accounting methods Apple still hasn't beaten them, but for a company
that was left for dead ten years ago to take on the unethical, predatory
monopolist and beat them in personal media players, smartphones, and tablet
computing, should give hope to struggling startups everywhere that sometimes
David does beat Goliath

• Nobody?

You asked your nieces and nephews and suddenly you can represent the whole world?

You religion betrays your logic, my friend.

• People like ShazAmerica are upset

MS made a profit, and are getting their act together on the rest.

I guess it bothers them to no end, and their posts are a laugh to read.

He asked his nieces and nephews, and threatened them with "no icecream" if they didn't give the answer he needed for his post! :)

• Hmmm...

your nieces and nephews want an iPhone. Yet, they don't have one, why is that? Could it be that they can't afford one? Did they want an iPhone before or after it was released 3 years ago?

If MS is a dinosaur, does that make Apple the first single cell creature since Apple is older than MS?

Are you really comparing startups to Apple? This is Goliath(Apple) beating up on Goliath(MS). Someday you're the puncher and someday, you're the punching bag.

• My nieces and nephews, as well as my grand daughter...

just wants a cell phone. One of these phones will certainly make their day. Unethical, predatory, monopolist-- umm, I dont know. As for beating Goliath, Apple may be winning the battle, lets wait and see who will win the war. That will be the matter!

making the NVIDIA Tegra-powered gadgets quite capable for running a great variety of apps.

That is great but there is one problem with it. It's on the Verizon network so instead of buying apps for a small fee they will instead charge you $3.99 for a monthly subscription for each app.

• 3rd time's the charm?

So after putting Windows Mobile out of its (and our) misery, "Classic" not withstanding, Microsoft is taking two more cracks at the market it just about invented almost a decade ago. Are they not wanting to put all their eggs in one basket again?

It kind of reminds me of the PC-Jr: a perfectly capable but cheaper device targeted at children, yet deliberately crippled by its maker.

In a world dominated by the iPhone and Blackberry this Microsoft phone will be about as successful as the Zune is relative to the iPod.
