Motorola cracking down on Droid X Android 2.2 update leak

By | August 23, 2010, 11:44am PDT

Summary: Even though the Droid X is expected to get Android 2.2 in September, the awaited update already leaked, and Motorola isn’t pleased.

Even though the Droid X is expected to get Android 2.2 next month, the awaited update already leaked, and Motorola isn’t pleased.Motorola has already commenced sending out cease and desist messages to anyone who has posted the leaked Froyo upgrade, which include a point about removing read-only memory from the relevant sites as well.

There isn’t a defined reason for the crackdown, but it’s also not the best idea to download an unofficial version of a software update anyway. It could be vulnerable to security hacks, faulty in certain areas, and possibly prevent your smartphone from working altogether. September isn’t too far off to wait for anyway.

Motorola should fix 2.2 for the droid first!
ajrmd Updated - 24th Aug 2010
Since the new OS was pushed onto my phone two weeks ago, it has been a disaster. No longer can I connect via wifi to networks secured with EAP. My once stellar battery life has become abysmal and I now have to charge it twice a daya - it seems like nearly every app is constantly updating. Motorola won't take any responsibility and their customer support is awful. All I am asking for is an OS rollback until they can fix the problems. They claim that it is up to the carrier and that they don't have any control. Who released the buggy and flawed OS in the first place? My once rad phone is now a piece of useless garbage.

This is Roid we are talking about.... There is no security and they are already buggy...

Motorola just wants to bundle some more bloatware with the update so they can make a few extra bucks.. Why else would they spend money to have a team of lawyers issue cease and desist orders???
