Motorola Droid 3 specs revealed in leaked Verizon document

Summary: Verizon's upcoming Motorola Droid 3 seems to answer disgruntled Swype users' demand for a full QWERTY keyboard with a "dedicated number row," on an up-to-date Android phone.

The QWERTY slider Motorola Droid 3 is coming to America, according to an internal Verizon document obtained by AndroidCentral (pictured above).

Like the Motorola Milestone XT883 recently launched in China, Droid 3 will be one of the first Verizon phone to ship with Android Gingerbread (2.3), though it won't work on the speedy LTE/4G network. That said, it is a world phone designed for both GSM and CDMA; it even comes pre-installed with a GSM SIM card.

Droid 3 features a 4" display with qHD resolution touchscreen (540x960), a 1 GHz dual-core processor, 16 GB of internal storage, 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD video recording and LED flash, a front-facing camera, and can double as a mobile hotspot for up to 5 devices. There is a microSD card slot that accepts up to a 32 GB card, but won't include a starter card. Of course, there is the slide-out QWERTY keyboard with a "5 row" design that includes a "dedicated number row," in addition to an on-screen keyboard with Swype and voice-to-text capabilities.

On the software front, the Droid 3 supports Flash and can download BlockBuster movies via Wi-Fi, has VZ Navigator, supports video conferencing and provides access to the Amazon MP3 store and Rhapsody.

According to InfoSync, an earlier rumor pegs the launch date of the Droid 3 as July 7 but Verizon has not indicated confirmed or denied. Pricing is also unavailable at this point.

Like I said in a post about T-Mobile's myTouch 4G Slide, there are plenty of smartphone users who hate virtual keyboards and are shopping for an Andriod phone with the latest OS and a full QWERTY, so bring on the Droid 3!

  • After 4.7" smartphone from HTC, only 5'' will do; these 4'' are so petty

@DeRSSS <br>The "5" in iPhone 5 will refer to the screen size! YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST AND FROM THE FOLKS WHO BROUGHT YOU THE REVELATION THAT APPLE INVENTED LIGHTPEAK!!! iPhone 5 WILL have a 5" screen at which point DeRSSS and me will proclaim 5" to be the new "perfect" size. YEAH!!!

Sorry, but lightpeak was invented by Intel. Apple doesn't invent much, they just innovate with design, which is something you could say they invented for a change.

        Newsflash:
You appear to be sarcasm impaired. woulddie4apple is an anti-Apple troll

Also, The basic LightPeak spec WAS developed at Apple. In order to create a universal standard port, they then brought it to Intel and co-developed.

Oh NZ you're just to much, too much. Good to have you back. How are things in Canada?

  • Sorry......

But if they continue to use their cooked up Apache Active Sync client I will not be supporting these devices. Every Moto phone I have had has had issues with Active sync and they all have one thing in common: No fully licensed active sync.

Yep, I realized it after I invested in Atrix 4G. I like the phone, but ActiveSync sucks and not really good for enterprise integration.

5 inch would be too big - that's practically a tablet.

Since the article describes the phone as being both GSm & CDMA, will an unlocked Droid 3 work on AT&T?

    • RE: Motorola Droid 3 specs revealed in leaked Verizon document

@mburg Like any gsm phone, if you unlock it, you can use it on any gsm network. CDMA versions of the same phone cannot be unlocked in the same manner (different technology).

Wrong. The Droid has BOTH CDMA AND GSM radios. There is no "CDMA version".

Am I the only one that thinks of product value this phone represents. Rather than improving a product that you sunk so much advertising dollars into in 2009 you kind of let it slip to the wayside and let other droid clones saturate the market.

4" yes - 5" - would have to see that to see if usable in hand, pocket, case etc.

Android device security is important - I recommend 2x mobiledevicemanager

    or from the Android Market

Actually 5 inch is pretty nice.

Someone brought in the Dell 5 inch tablet which doubles as phone. 5 inch fits in a pocket and is about the bare minimum to browse without constantly zooming around the screen.

While it doesn't look too weird if you hold it to your ear, it works great with a blue tooth headset.

Of course, this has nothing to do with Droid 3, but just thought I would mention that you can get a 5 inch device today if you are GSM.
