Motorola Droid R2-D2 special edition gets a landing dock

By | September 3, 2010, 11:46am PDT

Summary: Verizon is holding series of games and clues online leading up to the release of the Motorola Droid 2 R2-D2 special edition, set to blast off on September 30. The latest find is a new docking station for the smartphone. Just don’t expect it to look like a rebel base.

Verizon Wireless has published a huge teaser site with a series of games and clues leading up to the release of the Motorola Droid 2 R2-D2 special edition, set to blast off on September 30. The latest find is a new docking station for the smartphone. Just don’t expect it to look like a rebel base.

The sleek white dock, uncovered yesterday, is rather simple but should make the perfect home for your beloved Empire Strikes Back-inspired device. I’m actually relieved this looks more normal and fitting for any desk rather than something in the shape of an X-Wing or Millennium Falcon.

Hopefully this little guy will be sold separately so other Droid 2 owners can still get their hands on one. There are still six pieces of the puzzle left to solve, so get cracking if you still want to play and win your own R2-D2 smartphone.

TBH - this dock blows away Apple's
BillDem 8th Sep 2010
Turning your phone into a horizontal bedside alarm clock with readable digits every night while it charges makes infinitely more sense. Apple's freaking "leaning tower-of-iPhone" style dock is so easy to knock over and don't even try to read the clock when you're half awake.

Why does android target the 7th graders?
Johnny Vegas 3rd Sep 2010
Seriously, is this the best they can do?
7th grader? I a 53-year-old web programmer and designer, and I would love to have a Droid R2-D2.
@Johnny Vegas and Benjie Dog -- Oh don't mind little Johnny, he's a CrApple maggot escapee out attempting to upset the competition, now that Droids are the #1 selling Android Phone and Android is the #1 selling OS that is quickly gaining on Crapple as they lose steam to the competition! haha...

@Johnny Well maybe that's because Android just turn 7years old (incorporated August 2003) and they want to beat up on their toddler cousin Crapple iOS!!! grin

Android is taking over CrApple? It's all downhill from here....baby! haha...

@i2fun@... *YAWN* You've said that before... and it looks like iOS is still accounting for twice the web consumption that Android has so at this point it would not be logical to count your chickens before they hatched. Come back when Andriod is really on top - the article you linked to said Android is gaining NOT on top.
@Johnny Vegas
Considering seventh graders were not alive when Empire Strikes Back came out, I guess you are correct.....
I wonder whether the continual release of new versions of the Droid is a smart move or not.

I have the original Motorola Droid and lusted for the X or was it the 2 that came next. Now that I see the how often new ones are coming out I happy to wait for my every 2 year discount to come up. If the rate doesn't slow down, I'll wait for the killer app.
