MSI resumes shipping Intel Sandy Bridge-powered laptops

Summary: There was a big fuss earlier this year regarding flaws found in Intel’s new Sandy Bridge chipset, but it looks like things are getting back to normal. MSI has announced that it will resume shipping Sandy Bridge-powered laptops immediately.

There was a big fuss earlier this year regarding flaws found in Intel’s new Sandy Bridge chipset, but it looks like things are getting back to normal. MSI has announced that it will resume shipping Sandy Bridge-powered laptops immediately.

The two notebooks of interest here are the 15.6-inch GT680R and GE620 gaming laptop. Both machines will be getting refreshed, second-generation Intel Core i7-2630QM processors.

These MSI models, along with the FX420, FX720/FR720 and CR640/CX640, will be eligible for a one-year extended warranty. Registration must be completed within 30 days of the purchase to qualify.

Pricing for these updated (and hopefully completely fixed) portable computers start at $1,249.99 for the GE620 and $1,649 for the GT680R.

It never fails to amaze me the prices of gaming laptops. I mean those are 2 words in my opinion that shouldn't be grouped together. You can spend less money and build a gaming desktop with better hardware. Gaming should be done on a large desktop with proper cooling and airflow, with a big monitor. Sorry but a 15 inch screen is not worthy of a true gamer.
