MSI Wind12 U230 Light netbook out now with 11.6" screen

MSI has lightened up its Wind12 U230 laptop, which debuted back in March, with a new, smaller-sized display version.

The U230 Light might look tinier than the 12.1-inch U230 original, but it still manages to weigh 3.3 pounds. Here’s what’s inside that more petite frame:

  • 11.6-inch LED-backlit display (1,366 x 768 resolution; 16:9 aspect ratio)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium OS
  • AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 1.6GHz CPU
  • ATI Radeon HD 3200 GPU
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 250GB hard drive

Unfortunately for this netbook, despite using “60% less” energy than comparable netbooks, it looks like there’s only four hours of battery life per charge on this machine.

The Wind12 U230 Light netbook is available now for $399.99. Given that you’ve basically got the same computer as the original except half an inch shaved off the display, it’s a slightly better deal than the U230 priced at $429.99. Unless you really want a slightly-larger screen.

Netbook

Is this - or the larger screen version - really a netbook? If a laptop has a hard drive instead of solid state, Windows 7 instead of Linux, iOS or similar and a 12.1in screen, isn't it just a small laptop? The original Eee PC had a 7in screen and 2GB of flash!
