MSI's new Wind Top AE1900: nettop charm, Apple style

Summary: Netbook purveyor MSI today launched its Wind Top AE1900, a nettop (as in, desktop with netbook innards) that shows a little white, a little glass, and suspiciously, a considerable dose of Apple-styled class. Netbook purveyor MSI today launched its Wind Top AE1900, a nettop (as in, desktop with netbook innards) that shows a little white, a little glass, and suspiciously, a considerable dose of Apple-styled class.

Rhyming aside, this machine could be a great little kiosk or thin client:

  • An 18.5-in. WSXGA 16:9 LCD display with 160 degrees of horizontally-wide range, 5 milliseconds (Tr+Tf) response time and 1000:1 and 250 cd/㎡ in brightness
  • Intel Atom 230 Processor with Intel 945GC+ICH7 chipset
  • 2GB DDR2 533 MHz RAM
  • 160GB SATA HDD
  • Super-multi DVD drive
  • Touch-screen support
  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • 2 speakers, HD audio
  • Low energy (just 45 watts!)
  • Low noise (”will never exceed 26 decibels”)
  • 802.11 b/g/n wireless
  • Four-in-one card reader (SD,MMC,MS,XD), 4 USB 2.0, 1 RJ-45, 1 fax/modem, line in/out

No word on pricing or availability, but if the netbook trend is any indication, this machine must have a three digit price tag.

It also has to compete with the Asus' offering, which is in the low $500s.

Cheap substitute! Anyone actually SEEN a Mac display? Gorgeous! Not like this thing, in any manner at all!
What can you get with the words Apple on it that is fully a functioning computing device, 18.5" display, camera, touch screen for around $500?

....crickets....crickets....crickets

You guys sure are proud of your 8.3% market share but the rest of us live in the real world and are looking for real value not something that is "Gorgeous!"

You are wrong..Apple has sparked a design revolution in all the hardware and software vendors.Good design and graphics thanks to Mac is no longer a differentiator it industry standard...Glad now Dell has finally court on bricks dont sell on lifestyle design.MSI is just copying everyone else...
