Neato XV-11 coming to clean living rooms this week

The Roomba has a new competitor. Neato Robotics has debuted the Neato XV-11, which is another one of their products that will “free people from household chores.” But it doesn’t do dishes.

Basically, the Neato XV-11 gets a 360-degree view of the target room, and then maps out a cleaning plan. It follows the route, and then backtracks to get every little piece of dust from every nook and cranny it possibly can. The petite vacuum is less than four inches tall, so it should be able to fit under almost everything.

Best of all, it can be scheduled when to clean - even daily if you’re really messy. Once finished, the Neato XV-11 returns to the dock by itself for charging.

The bad news is that this useful little gadget has quite a large price tag: $399. New orders should be ready for shipping by mid-July, but I might be sticking with my broom and dustpan for awhile.

Too little sucking power, want good hepa filters

That is funny, "ronangel" (his post).
Personally, Roomba and this Neato are not worth it for me. Plus, I'd want it to have a good filter to minimize dust.
I need a vacuum that can suck up from medium pile carpet, and even my big upright that consumes a LOT of electricity and produces an amazing amount of heat in the process yet doesn't do a job well enough to satisfy me... and my upright vacuum cost $299.
I think a robot that'd do the job will be about the size of a treasure chest, and weigh about 150 pounds (due to batteries)... and even then I'd complain that it didn't pick up enough, LOL! And I'd complain that I had to change the air (ex. hepa) filters.

I don't understand the thinking behind pricing it higher than a Roomba. Are we supposed to believe that the first product from an unknown manufacturer is superior?

It would need a bulldozer attachment or explosives to get around my place. only of use if your home is tidy In the first place so defeats the point (grin) probably would frighten my pets (The Mice) very messy if one got caught in the mechanism... so wont be getting one soon.Anyway, to quote Quentin Crisp "After the first 3 years the dust does not get any higher"
