Netflix is expanding its empire in Canada thanks to a new deal with Paramount Pictures, obtaining "exclusive subscription television rights to all first-run films."

The agreement, which is valid for at least five years, gets Netflix new movies such as Iron Man 2 during the typical premium pay TV window. It also brings over 350 new titles to Canada's Watch Instantly catalog, ranging from the original Sabrina to Zoolander to Titanic.

If Showtime and other pay TV channels didn't see Netflix as a direct competitor before, they certainly will now - at least north of the border. Stateside, Netflix doesn't have as many huge deals like this (during that 30-day, post-release timeframe) with the big studios but rather the smaller distributors like Relativity Media.
