New Rumor: T-Mobile stores to open early, all phones free on June 19

By | June 10, 2010, 8:36am PDT

Summary: Rumor has it that T-Mobile will be opening their stores early nationwide on June 19. Here’s the kicker: every single mobile phone in the store will be free that day. Woah, what?

There’s a lot of speculation swirling around T-Mobile lately. Yesterday, it had to do with the mysterious US launch for the Samsung Galaxy S.

Today, rumor has it that T-Mobile will be opening their stores early nationwide on June 19. Here’s the kicker: every single mobile phone in the store will be free that day. Woah, what?

Maybe T-Mobile execs have lost it. Or maybe it’s a clever marketing strategy. June 19 is the day before Father’s Day, making it a prime place to go if you haven’t bought that father figure in your life a gift yet. It also appears that promotion is tied in with family plans, as a leaked commercial spot script (if real) says that phones are free when bought with a family plan.

It is also the Saturday before AT&T will launch the Apple iPhone 4 (on June 24, to be precise), so they could be looking to beat AT&T to the punch. The prospect of any phone in the store being free is very enticing - especially to those who aren’t particularly devoted to one brand or another (read: Macheads).

Another good reason to clear out inventory is to make room for new stuff - primarily (or hopefully) the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone. Plus, major sales on a single day is always a good PR stunt. Although, sometimes these mobile companies get too excited (See: Sprint and the HTC Evo 4G).

Don’t get too excited though. Keep in mind that (if this is true) mobile devices would only be free with the signing of a two-year contract. You don’t think they’d let you get away that easy, do you?

R.I.P. T-Mobile's current lineup isn't all that great so I think it's just a pre-Father's Day super-firesale on old junk. And according to this buzz, no family, no freebie. That's fine, they can keep em.

admitted that new iPhone releases cause a significant loss of customers from Sprint and other carriers. This is T-mobile's attempt to stem that by taking a loss on a phone to get you into a 2-year contract.
AT&T announced today that they will no longer offer unlimited data plan to new customers. They will charge $25.00 dollars for 2Gigs then $10.00 for each additional gig. I wonder if the early store opening for T-Mobile is related. This does limit the apple product for High data users. The limits from the past have cased the trend of people jail-braking the Iphone and using it on other networks.
That is a great marketing idea except T-Mobile phones suck and their coverage is weak in a lot of areas where they could get new customers. Now if Sprint did that, or even offered 50% off, that would be the balls and they would skyrocket to 2nd place.
They will charge $25.00 dollars for 2Gigs then $10.00 for each additional gig.
I like this concept. Although on the face of it this looks like a really big, costly promotion, I doubt it will end up costing T-Mobile that much.

Most of the basic phones are offered for free anyway with a contract. On the latest smartphones T-Mobile could tweak the contract prices to compensate for the free phone offer, limit stock stores have to ensure they don?t make too much of a loss, or only allow specific deals and even multiple contract requirements for families on certain handsets.

You are very talented having great information. I really appreciate this great article.
Today, rumor has it that T-Mobile will be opening their stores early. Another good reason to clear out inventory is to make room for new stuff - primarily. Mobile devices would only be free with the signing of a two-year contract. I am always searching online for articles that can help me.Thanks for clarify this.
I really believe you will do much better in the future I appreciate everything you have added to my knowledge base. Admiring the time and effort you put into your blog and detailed information you offer! It is good reason to clear out inventory is to make room for new stuff - primarily the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone.
I think it is true that the mobile devices would only be free with the signing of a two-year contract. I want to say thanks to ZDnet for explaining clearly.
My question is what about even more plus, no contract plans? I would switch to a contract family plan but customer service just told me that I will not be able to switch my even more plus plan to a contract family plan. WTF is up with that. Whats worse is that I told them I would just cancell and start a new family plan and the rep told me that I would not be able to get new service with Tmobile if I cancel my current plan for 90 days.
This is indeed what everyone has been waiting for! It has it all, I hope Sprint gets a version like this, or their Tour version next year at least has the trackpad, Wi-Fi and 5.0 in it.
An valuable resource and great addition to my favorites. The new features are well received on this end and will surely help the community share and progress more rapidly.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a 13.4-ounce, 7-inch tablet that slips easily into a pocket or bag. A virtual QWERTY keyboard and SWYPE? technology makes e-mail and texting on the go easy?you can type on the Tab either by using both thumbs or by using SWYPE input technology. Nice!
This article gives the light in which we can observe the reality. This is very nice one and gives indepth information. Information like Samsung Galaxy S to launch on T-Mobile USA in July and phones are free, all are rumer.
