Registered Android developers will be eligible to get a copy of the Nexus One, which is basically the same as the original version with Android 2.1, but a Froyo update is on the way.

While the Android Developers blog post mentions “unlocked phones” in one sentence and the price of $529 in the next, Engadget theorizes that the offer is tied to T-Mobile just like the consumer version. Still, it’s not a bad way to experiment with the SDK on an Android-based smartphone other than your own.
