Nintendo 3DS release details will be announced in September

Talk about drawn out release. Nintendo hasn’t come clean about when the new 3DS portable console will be released, but the gaming giant has said when the press conference about the launch will be.

The Nintendo 3DS was given a formal unveiling back in June at E3 2010 in Los Angeles. Now, Bloomberg Japan is reporting that Nintendo will announce both a price and a release date for the 3DS on September 29.

That still leaves the door open a potential launch before the holiday shopping season (not to mention rumors about an October launch in certain places), but it wouldn’t be completely surprising if the 3DS didn’t drop until 2011.

What is the 3DS, exactly?

Nevermind the release date, I'm still confused on what the machine is meant to do. I'm hearing all kinds of things, from "It's able to render 3D polygonal models better than the DS" to "It allows you to see 3D images (I.E the "pop-out" kind) without the aid of 3D glasses".
