Remember that nifty Bicycle Charger Kit that Nokia debuted last summer? Well, trying to save the planet just got more expensive.

Originally priced at €15 ($18), the bike and mobile phone accessory is now retailing for €30 ($41). The kit includes the charger, the Bottle Dynamo (which brings the juice power from the pedals to the phone battery), and a holster.

While it's not a terrible price, price hikes are always a bummer. Another problem is that this Bicycle Charger Kit still hasn't started shipping worldwide yet as previously promised. That's too bad as this green accessory certainly has potential - at least with anyone that owns a bike and a Nokia phone.

Actually, there is a similar product already here in US. I read all about the Nokia charger kit. Unfortunately, my husband, who loves bicycling, has an HTC incredible. After some research, I found a product that covers all type of smart phones, not just Nokia, here: http://www.bike2power.com/smartphone-bicycle-charger-kit.html.
Price hike IS a bummer. Judging from the other site (Bike2Power) however, this is the realistic price of the kit.

Although the Nokia first wanted to market its product to the developing nations who can use it the most, perhaps they haven't thought it through very well. The good news is that bicycle powered phone charger is relevant to US. My husband and his friend found an apartment for the friend's family using their bikes and phones and the charger kit. Because the phone battery remained charged up, they could look at the listing, navigate to the locations, call landlords, etc. I thought it was very cool - beats spending lots of gas and looking for parking.

Anyway, I hope more bicycling will consider similar kits. Very eco friendly, less traffic and less carbon!
