The Nokia N8, a.k.a. the the first Symbian^3 powered handset, has finally gotten an official release date.

It was already reported that this much-awaited smartphone would start shipping at the end of September, but an established date has been elusive. We have one now…at least in the U.K., but it is likely that it will be the same (if not very, very close) in the United States.  The Nokia N8 will pop up on shelves on October 1 for £429 ($663) “SIM free” or with a contract, starting at £35 ($54) per month.

There’s a lot to be excited about with the Nokia N8, particularly the 12-megapixel HD camera, HDMI output and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound.

Eager buyers in the U.S. can still pre-order one now for a whopping $549.99. At least the contract-free version is cheaper stateside.
