Two of the biggest e-book reader devices are branching out to new vendors this month.

Barnes & Noble's Nook is set to be released at Best Buy, and rumors are afloat of the Amazon Kindle hitting the shelves of Target in a few weeks.

It looks almost certain that Best Buy will start carrying the Nook, with the predicted start date of April 18. More interesting is the appearance of the Kindle in Target's inventory, which would sell on the shelves for the same price as online at $259.

Given the popularity of other e-reader equipped devices (ahem, the iPad), this is a smart move for both Amazon and B&N to branch out their devices to multiple stores. Amazon's choice to sell the Kindle at Target could be even more genius given that it it might be more enticing being seen on the shelves in a store that doesn't just sell electronics, potentially opening the doors to a wider demographic.
