Polaroid and RealD partner for premium 3D glasses

By | August 19, 2010, 9:18am PDT

Summary: Polaroid Eyewear is going to the movies thanks to a partnership with RealD. The result? Polaroid Premium 3D Eyewear.

Polaroid Eyewear is going to the movies thanks to a partnership with RealD. The result? Polaroid Premium 3D Eyewear.

Under the deal, the glasses will be made and certified with RealD’s 3D touch, while Polaroid will be responsible for distributing the frames at movie theaters, optometry clinics and who knows where else.

Apparently the Polaroid Premium 3D glasses can also double as sunglasses as each pair is outfitted with UV protection. Available in both adult and kid sizes, the collection will also feature many “appealing” designs, more than just the typical black set like the one seen above.

No word on pricing nor a release date for these optical accessories just yet.

I also want clip-ons. I think 3D movies are cool, but wearing the 3D glasses over my prescription glasses is a PAIN, and significantly reduces my enjoyment of the movie. Clip-ons should cost almost nothing, and there's plenty of stores already with kiosks for clip-on sunglasses; they could distribute through those, or let the movie store sell me a pair for $10.

I do not want to buy prescription glasses just to go to the movies. My regular glasses already are expensive enough. I think this is a load. Also, anyone who does needs to have their head examined.

how about clip on's...

for people who wear glasses. I would look into that if they were reasonably priced. Wearing those 3D glasses over my glasses is a pain.
These are not "prescription glasses" as they have a "plano lens" (nicely curved as opposed to the flat lens standard issue) - the range includes frames for people with and without prescription frames that fit very much better than the standard issue one-time use glasses from RealD or MasterImage. The product works with 3D passive TV screens as well as REalD and MasterImage cinemas. You can see the range at Polaroid Eyewear's site. http://www.polaroideyewear.com/en/collection/Premium3DGlasses.aspx

3d Covers- cool stuff
SuperMegaMouse 20th Aug 2010
Those 3D covers form Polaroid, I guess you can simply put them OVER your optical frames, now that would be really great for I hate the cheap ones you get today, they simply do not fit well over my specs, so I would def. try those 3D covers, sounds like a good solution for people like myself.
