Roku has stepped up its program access offerings the additions of Al-Jazeera English and a special USB Media Player channel.

Given how much obvious interest there is regarding news about Tunisia and Egypt right now, getting access to Al-Jazeera English feeds is incredibly useful. A step-by-step guide to adding the channel with live and on-demand feeds is available in Roku’s forums. Roku is also working on bringing a dedicated live feed to the Roku Newscaster Channel.

And, for consumers with Roku XDS or Roku HD-XR boxes sporting USB ports, the USB Media Player can be installed from the Roku Channel Store. This allows users to playback videos, music and photos from a USB drive on a TV through the box. Specific firmware and file type information can also be found in the Roku Forums.
