Good news for owners of the Roku XR box: 1080p HD video playback support is headed your way with a new firmware update.

Along with that fun feature, release v2.9b1509 includes improved Hulu streaming, fixed crash and other playback bugs, and a new screen saver preview.

Owners of this Roku set-top box can obtain the firmware update in one of two ways. First, there’s the easy automatic update you can wait for over the next several days. But if you just can’t wait for playback better than 720p, you can download the update yourself by heading to the “Settings” menu, find “Player Info” and then “Check for Updates.” The rest is up to you.

hm. i got my roku 2yr ago when it was the "netflix player" - it's been my understanding that the XR == that model. however now i'm doubting that. anybody have some insight?
I just got my Roku last week and love it. The Hulu Plus channel did have streaming trouble, but it looks like they're fixing that. Netflix and Amazon streaming is flawless over FIOS.
