Roku’s growing popularity is has become extra evident now that the Roku HD set-top box will be sold at Best Buy locations nationwide.

The Roku XD has shipped direct to consumers up until this point, so this announcement is a bit of a milestone for the streaming player company. (Other Roku models can already be found at Fry’s, Radio Shack and other tech stores.)

Even though it is headed to a mega-retailer, pricing for the Roku HD will stay put at $79.99 (not including shipping and taxes). The home entertainment device is available at Best Buy now.

In case you’re not familiar with the Roku HD, it’s an Internet-connected device that supports 720p/1080p HD video streaming, HDMI connectivity and works with “virtually any” SD and HD television.

I'm very confused as to why you are using the Roku HD and XD box interchangeably in this article. Those are two separate products and from what I understand Best Buy is selling the XD product only.

I need an audio / video media player that can play DVD or BluRay files from networked or local (attached) hard disk files. I would like to leave the DVD menu system intact.

Of course I would also like to have access to all Internet content sources.

I can't answer if the Roku can, but I have 2 other units that can.
Argosy's HV335T and Western Digital's TV Live Plus

IMHO, the Argosy seems to handle this better but the WD also does Netflix so it depends what you are looking for.
@randycpu
yes it can. I use Playon TV which adds itself as a Roku Channel. it will play any media from your pc. works very well

This unit has been sold at TheShack (aka Radio Shack) for at least 6 months now. I wish we had the XD-S model though. It would be a lot more useful for most people.
Which is it? The article says Roku XD in some places like the title and the photo, Roku HD in three other places!
