Rumor: Hulu might soon be available on Xbox 360

By | June 2, 2010, 3:40am PDT

Summary: Xbox 360 owners might have something new to look forward to on their dashboards next to Netflix and Facebook access. Gear Live is reporting that Hulu will soon be available on the Microsoft gaming console as well.

Xbox 360 owners might have something new to look forward to on their dashboards next to Netflix and Facebook access. Gear Live is reporting that Hulu will soon be available on the Microsoft gaming console as well.

The tech site is pointing towards an unveiling at E3 2010 in two weeks, along side the hyped Project Natal announcement.

Details beyond this are quite slim - except the bad news might be that Hulu doesn’t seem to have let up on that idea of a subscription service, to the annoyance of many back in April. No word on how much this will cost yet except that it might use the Microsoft Points model.

But are you willing to pay for it at all?

RE: Rumor: Hulu might soon be available on Xbox 360

Hulu already is available on the Xbox360, PS3 and Wii using the digital media server software - PlayOn. I've been using this for months and it works flawlessly. I don't need it built into the Xbox itself. A lifetime license for the PlayOn software was only $30. It does a whole lot more than provide the Xbox the ability to stream Hulu - just search for it in your favorite search tool and I'm sure you'll find it quickly. There is a whole bunch of official premium content and with the open source plug-ins - users are creating some pretty nifty add-ons to gain access to all sorts of other web based content.

So basically, this big announcement is meaningless in my world - and anyone else with decent digital media server software like PlayOn. Come on people! Catch up to us early adopters! wink

Xbox Gold Live Membership
jspignardo@... 2nd Jun 2010
I love the idea that Hulu would come to Xbox. I would even be willing to pay for Hulu. What I am not willing to pay for is an Xbox Gold live membership to watch Netflix & Hulu, something that other consoles already allow me to do without a charge. I cornered an MS rep in Best Buy at Christmas and asked him why do I have to pay to watch this content on Xbox but not the Wii or Roku? No answer.
@jspignardo@... You expect a lowly rep to KNOW the answer to that question?

As long as it doesn't have commercials...

I think it would be fair to pay a fee if they get rid of the commercials as a way to finance the service. If it's going to be the same as through the website then services like PlayOn already offer that and they don't require a subscription fee.
