Samsung's first stab at a tablet, the Galaxy Tab, might have had its ups and downs over the last few months, but we could be seeing the successor sooner than we expected.

According to Pocket-lint and its confirmed sources, Samsung will unveil a new 10-inch slate with Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) with a Qualcomm dual-core processor and an 8-megapixel camera on Sunday, February 13 in Barcelona.

That sounds reasonable enough, and the timing couldn't be better. The e-book readers had their battle in 2010, and 2011 is definitely shaping up to be the year of the tablet with the Motorola Xoom, LG G-Slate, HP TouchPad and the BlackBerry PlayBook expected to drop in the next few months. Don't count out the still-unannounced iPad 2 and possible HTC tablet with Gingerbread.

Which tablet are you looking forward to the most?

I will be personally disappointed if they only unveil the Galaxy Tab 2 with the 10" form-factor. As a Galaxy Tab (v1) owner, I LOVE the 7" form-factor. It's currently sitting inside my left-breast pocket right now. At 10", it will stay at home with my 3 laptops and 2 desktops...

BTW, I LOVE my Galaxy Tab (v1).

If it's going to stay at home why not wish for something with a 12" screen?

Exactly. Once you get past 7", then it just becomes a novelty. Look at some of the ridiculous gear on kickstarter.com to help you watch your iPad in bed. It is comical.

No 7 inch version would be COMPLETE FAIL. The 7 inch form factor was the best thing about the first Galaxy Tab. It also happened to have the best pixel density of ALL the tablets since it was still the same resolution, shrunk down to size. If Samsung doesn't do a 7 inch version (I got rid of my Tab 1 in anticipation of the Honeycomb launch) then I'll just plain skip over them and wait for someone who does, or wait til the price of the Xoom comes down to a reasonable level. For now my rooted nook color will have to do.

  • Agreed - 7inch is the sweet spot

The OQO 5 inch screen was too small, and the current crop of 10inch tablet are terrible -- way too big for a portable device. Why carry a giant tablet if you can just take a whole netbook/laptop?

7inch will be the hot market segment as it balances size and practicality.

  • Tablets are like penises...

The seven inch ones are perfect, but when you hit 10 inches, you get complaints.

@trickytom3 Agreed. I always get complaints when I whip out my 10" device and try to use it in public. lol

The big issue, as always, is, "At what price?" The 7" Galaxy Tab retailed in Australia at roughly the same price as the most expensive iPad, yet it had less features. On that basis, how are Samsung going to release a 10" device at the same price or less, which they would need to do to make is competitive with the iPad and other devices that are on the way?

  • Tab 1 not upgradeable to Honeycomb?

So what happens to Tab 1? Can it be consumer upgradeable to Homyecomb? Will Samsung upgrade it via store or factory? Is the Tab 1 closed-ended. This is not sweet!

    • I'm afraid it doesn't look like they will

The Tab1 will probably stick with what it has, unfortunately.

Blah, blah, blah, announcements, demos, vaporware.

    Stop yapping and start shipping.

Q: Isn't Honeycomb a forked version of Android? Like you're starting from scratch?

@pjtmgt@... you mean like the iPad OS? After all you started from scratch with that also.

  • 7" is the best size

I agree with the others, I will not buy this tablet unless they offer a 7" model
