Summary: Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes has been tapped to direct a series of commercials for the upcoming fourth-generation iPhone.

Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes has been tapped to direct a series of commercials for the upcoming fourth-generation iPhone. And what will be in the spotlight? Video conferencing.

As spotted on Twitter by multiple tech bloggers, the American Beauty and Revolutionary Road director will be getting to work on this soon as auditions are already underway. Supposedly one of the commercial spots will feature a mother and daughter video chatting with the next-gen iPhone’s front facing camera.

While much like the iPad, all of this hype is getting to be a bit much - but it’s also a bit exciting considering all of the new features with this phone. Hopefully it won’t disappoint on June 7.
