In other Samsung news, the electronics giant showcased a number of new gadgets today, starting with the BD-C8000 portable Blu-ray player. Samsung boasts that it’s the “world’s first” of its kind as it also plays 3D discs.

The BD-C8000 has actually been out since July with the retail price of $499, but it’s had an extra introduction at a special event in New York. That’s a big price tag for a portable gadget, but the Samsung device has some quality specs, including:

  • 1080p HD video playback
  • 1GB of memory
  • HDMI 1.4
  • Wi-Fi
  • 3-hour battery life
  • DLNA support

However, that 10.1-inch display is 2D only, meaning that users have to hook up the BD-C8000 to a 3D-enabled screen.
