T-Mobile is launching the Samsung Vibrant a bit earlier than expected: today.

It's a big day for smartphone releases between this and the Motorola Droid X. Originally expected to go on sale July 21, T-Mobile's copy of the Samsung Galaxy S series device is already listed on the wireless provider's online store for $199.99 following an instant discount and $50 mail-in rebate. That's with the signing of a two-year service agreement, of course.

As a refresher, the Samsung Vibrant boasts a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, 16GB of onboard memory, and a 5-megapixel camera/camcorder. Oh, and don't forget about the 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive display (480 × 800 resolution). Although if this smartphone gets too popular, that OLED shortage might present a problem for this device too.

Powered by Android 2.1 for the moment, a Froyo upgrade is expected to drop later this year.

  • T Mobile is a bit too late with the Vibrant

Should have been here four months ago instead of the HD2.

Samsung vibrant has an awesome screen (better than the 4G) and its video recording is better than the Droid X. It is a better option than a Droid X cause of this issue and the fact that it be rooted make it the best phone between both of them.

    But it has 6 drawbacks.

    1) HTC Evo or Incredible seem smoother (faster)
    2) No HDMI, video exists through the 3.5mm jack
    3) No Flash for the camera
    4) Its Samsung and updates are incomplete at best.
    5) No front facing camera (FFC)
    6) The launcher makes ressembles iPhone.

If I want an iPhone Ill get an iPhone no an imitation. Samsung just doesn't get it. If you want to lead, you should not follow.
  • Uralbas has hit the nail on the head!

I was looking forward to this drop, until I found out how watered down the Tmobile version would be. Tmobile has, as Uralbas has stated, adopted a Samsung branded Iphone 3gs. Nothing, other than the super AMOLED screen sets this phone apart from the competition. The 1ghz hummingbird, while impressive is nothing new to the high end smart phone arena. Every feature that made this phone worth wile has been removed. If I were to upgrade with Tmobile, this would be the phone I purchase, but I will not be upgrading with tmobile as their hardware just isn't cutting it for me anymore, not during these competitive times.
