Seagate and Samsung have formed a not-so-predictable partnership for the improvement of solid state drives.
According to the new-found agreement, the tech giants will ”develop and cross-license related controller technologies” together for presumably enterprise-focused SSDs.
Samsung will throw in its signature flash memory technology for 30 nanometer-class MLC NAND, while Seagate will assert its leadership of storage technology.
Neither company has released a timeline as to when we’ll see any of the fruits of this friendship, what devices the SSDs will be implemented on, or whether the results will trickle down to consumers after the enterprise-level. Nevertheless, seeing these two companies work together on a project is a bit intriguing, and expectations of what they can produce together are high.
