After hitting retail markets in April, Sony Ericsson has already made the announcement that the entire Xperia X10 mobile phone family will be getting a major face lift later this year, including the upgrade to Android OS 2.1.

The Xperia X10 family (X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro) run the specially-designed UX platform, which will see an overhaul at an unspecified time during the fourth quarter of 2010. That’s really not that long of a wait, but it could mean the very end of the year, so we’ll see.

Along with the bump up to Android 2.1, other significant features in the upcoming UX platform update include wireless connectivity via DLNA, HD video recording (comparable to the Sony Ericsson Vivaz) and productivity fixes for the UXP signature apps (Timescape and Mediascape).

The update will be made available on Sony Ericsson’s website for Xperia X10 users to download.
