Remember the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 announced back in June? Well, now it's finally shipping. But with only Android 1.6 at the moment, the success of this cell phone is in doubt.

While it is encased in a clean, snowy white exterior, the classic design might not be enough to sell this Xperia model. An Android 2.1 update is promised "later this year," but will that be too late?

However, with the right price point (which is expected to be under €200/$300 without a contract), the Xperia X8 could surprise us. Sony Ericsson touts the X8 as the company's "most affordable Android smartphone so far.

Falling in between the X10 and X10 mini in terms of size, the X8 comes with Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity as well as a 3.2-megapixel camera.
