Sony PlayStation Network suffering sporadic outages

By | April 4, 2011, 11:28am PDT

Summary: If you’ve tried to log in to the Sony PlayStation Network today, you might have been rejected. Don’t worry - you’re not alone.

If you’ve tried to log in to the Sony PlayStation Network today, you might have been rejected. Don’t worry - you’re not alone.

The official Sony “AskPlayStation” Twitter page confirmed that PSN is undergoing maintenenace, so it will be difficult to access the service throughout the day. (Supposedly the problem stems from an attack by a hacker group, but Sony hasn’t confirmed anything in that regard.)

Difficult, but not impossible. I tested logging into PSN via PlayStation 3 around 1:00PM ET this afternoon. I went through about five minutes of repeated error messages before I was able to successfully login. Fortunately, to play DVDs, Blu-ray discs and games (on discs), this shouldn’t propose any problems for PS3 users.

However, if you want to access online games or other services like Netflix, you’ll need to login into PS3 first before you can watch anything instantly.

my Xbox live is working perfectly without problems. maintenance is done overnight rather than during the day when people could be using it.

@Eric12341 maybe whats night for you may be day for others. anyway i never had problems with xbox live. =)
@Eric12341 Xbox live is just as vulnerable to DDoS as PSN is. Difference is that Microsoft hasn't done anything to piss off X-Box users on a scale that Anonymous cares about... yet
@sanph
What did ps3 do to piss people off???
@Eric12341 i jus signed up to reply to u lol u really must b a dumbass that comment made no sense ps3 ftw

@Eric12341
too bad you guys can't experiance the great sounding, hi-def picture of blue-ray..... and did you know you also have to pay a hefty fee of 59.99 dollars a year for xbox live? if you say xbox live is better, its like saying you don't think a bok of new born kittens are cute.
@r1d3d1rtb1k3s nice happy
@r1d3d1rtb1k3s

Too bad you can't spell...
@Eric12341 yup and you can keep your membership fees too.......
pissed off. my friend who lives in the same city as i do has had no problem logging in to his yet i cant even pull up their website on my computer. wtf?
@gothard88 According to reports, Sony is undergoing a denial of service attack by a pissed off group of hackers right now and they can't really do anything about it until the attack subsides.
@leimeisei
I hope they find the ones doing it and cut their fingers off.

except you would have to pay to play online, who wants to do that when you can do it for free on the ps3? xbox has its days of downtime for maintenance, stop stressin about it being down for one day.
I COULDNT LOG IN AND JUST KEEP HITTING THE LOGIN BUTTON AND AFTER SEVERAL TRIES IT LOGGED IN. ALSO CHANGED THE DNS TO GOOGLES. MINE WORKS.....

i think hackers suck monkey balls and they are pissed off that they cant get any real poon. get back on your blow up doll and let us play
they arent hackers. trust me. they use a skiddie program called LOIC which is extremely easy to trace. it was anonops organization. some noob from it posted it on a highly sophisticated hacking forum(yet all legal); yet they all raged him and said to get out because they don't allow things like that. you can thank this to MoldJelly on hackforums, as he was the one who posted it there. please realize hackforums had nothing involved in this, they do not participate in skiddie operations.
The story on the Anonymous PSN shutdown: : http://d.pr/C71w

I'm more than willing to sacrifice a few days of online play if it means the corporate terrorists at Sony can learn a lesson and make a few changes.
xbox has nothing to do with sony and hackers who did this will be found and get whats coming to them soon. There **** up my day to game online with friends and sense that guy who hack the ps3 system this happens now. Anyway the ps3 web page works but sometimes stop working half the time.
@NifesKnight Yeah and I suppose that's undergoing "sporadic maintainance" too? When are companies going to figure out that when they lie to their customers, that they lose customers? Why do they never learn?
Still mad about giving up linux.
Sony took back the hard drive because of stuff like this.
Hacks!
PS3: "It only does "everything." What a crock. Sony keeps removing features. They remove PS2 compatibility. They remove OtherOS. They remove features practically every firmware upgrade, and they have the nerve to make claims like this? Make me laugh. Sony? You had a chance to really do something, to really become number one. You are blowing it.

unfortunatedly something hasn0t been said
jorgeavc@... 5th Apr 2011
since yesterday there has been not any maintenance
http://blogs.forbes.com/andygreenberg/2011/04/04/anonymous-hackers-bring-down-sony-websites/
could also say that
http://anonnews.org/?p=press&a=item&i=787
so in a nutshell, yes they are under attack and not accepting it, if they are hiding a ddos, what else can sony try to hide?

I think Anon is screwing themselves. I am all for them stickin' it too the man (Sony), but you never attack civilians in a war (PS users). Take down everything of Sony, but leave the ps network alone.
