Sony’s Vaio Y and Z Series computers do more than just connecting to the Internet. They serve as personal wireless mobile hotspots as well.
The personal hotspots are made possible with Sony’s own Share My Connection software. Note that a subscription is required, unfortunately), but you can set up a network wireless access point that can accept up to five other Wi-Fi enabled devices to connect.
As for the computers themselves, the lower-end, 13.3-inch Y Series is targeted towards a youthful, student crowd. Laptops are available in five fun hues (black, teal blue, pear green, fuchsia and violet), and should fit easily in any knapsack with a 1.2-inch profile frame.
The 13.1-inch Z Series is for a more professional crowd, probably those who travel around a lot on business and want to connect gadgets quickly on the fly. Packaged in an aluminum casing, the notebook only weighs three pounds and a decent max seven hours of battery life that should sustain you on a trans-continental flight.
Both the SMC-enabled Vaio Y and Z series computers are available for pre-order now, for $770 and $1,950, respectively.
