Sony's PS Vita coming to the U.S. Feb. 22

Summary: The Nintendo 3DS vs. Sony PS Vita showdown is set for early 2012.

Sony's PS Vita coming to the U.S. Feb. 22

Sony’s Jack Tretton just revealed the PlayStation Vita’s American launch date at the Web 2.0 Summit, according to Joystiq.

The next-gen handheld console will be landing in North America, Europe, Australia and the Middle East on February 22, 2012, which confirms the Vita won’t be going head-to-head with the Nintendo 3DS this holiday. That said, gamers who only want to invest in one system may want to delay their purchase until the new year when they can compare the Vita and 3DS side by side.

Two versions of the Vita will be heading our way: a Wi-Fi only Vita for $249.99 and a 3G model with AT&T for $299.99.

No U. S. launch titles have been confirmed yet since the Vita won’t be in-stores till 2012, but the Japanese games Sony announced last month at the Tokyo Game Show should give fans a taste of what the Vita will be all about: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Hot Shots Golf 6, LIttle Big Planent, Uncharted: Golden Abyss to name a few. (Vita will be hitting Japan on December 17, 2011.)

With both the Vita and 3DS offering different games and experiences (touchscreen plus rear touchpad on the Vita, and 3D gameplay on the 3DS), perhaps you should start budgeting for both systems for next year now.
