Sony's S1 tablet gets official name change to Tablet S, launches in September

Summary: Though late to the game, a few details concerning Sony's first Android tablet, dubbed the Tablet S, are starting to emerge.

SHARE:

Sony's previously announced S1 tablet has an official name: The Tablet S.

That's the story according to Engadget, which uncovered both the tablet's official title and release window. Sony is expected to ship the device in the first two weeks of September. The Tablet S features a 9.4-inch screen, Android 3.1, and the ability to seamlessly transfer (or "throw") content to DLNA-certified devices like speakers and televisions.

Not mentioned in the story is the device's expected price, which is a key detail. Also unknown is the status of the dual-screened S2 tablet, which Sony also announced earlier this year.

@Return_of_the_jedi lol. A little photoshop will take care of that so they aren't completely out of the woods. They will also have to avoid opening the app drawer which looks like the iPad home screen.

I just paid $22.85 for an iPad 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.78 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $625 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, GrabCent.com

Should be interesting. If Sony can step up the tablet quality game the way they have with things like the Vaio P and Z Series, they might carve themselves out a small niche amongst Sony followers. Can't see anyone else really buying this in any appreciable quantity though.

If the price can be targeted at 300 bucks for 16GB I'll buy one :-)
