RIM’s old answer to Apple’s iPhone might have a new generation of its own soon. A photo is circling the Internet that is leading many to believe we might be seeing a BlackBerry Storm 3 in the coming months.

Thanks to one of BerryReview’s tipsters, we are supposedly looking at the third-gen Storm up above. The display is reportedly larger at 3.7-inches, and it will have Wi-Fi and 8GB of onboard memory.

The Storm has never been high on my list of smartphones with its clunky touch and push screen that tends to be annoying more than anything else. RIM is probably on a better path with the design of the recently released BlackBerry Torch, but maybe there is more to be seen with this new Storm.

I have a Storm 2 and would give it up in a flash (well, in a "Torch") to go back to AT&T and a get a "real" keyboard; unfortunately, I have about 17 months remaining on you 24 month commitment to Verizon. And while Verizon service has been great (in my area), so was AT&T -- indeed, I can't really tell the difference. So, maybe in 17 months there will be a Torch 2 for me ... one can dream!

I have had the Storm 1 and the Storm 2. I felt like a beta tester with the Storm 1 and was totally blown away when just a few months after the release of the Storm 2 RIM released a new operating system... but it was too large for the Storm 2.

I am a Droid fan now.
I started with the Storm 1, upgraded to the Storm 2 and will happily eschew the Droid/Apple app smorgasbord for a Storm 3 with a better screen and touch response, improved browser that's Flash compliant, zippier performance (1Ghz processor) and NO sliding keyboard. RIM Blackberry is nonpareil in security and sync-ability with MS Outlook. Just somebody please give us Star Walk!

Also avoiding BB.

I STILL have the Storm 1. And the software is STILL totally buggy. The OS is crap, and BB doesn't really seem to care. When I do upgrade, it will be Droid flavored. I am looking forward to Q1 of 2011.

4.3" is the new standard. Get it?

@LarsDennert "4.3" is the new standard. Get it?"

Not quite...some new devices are using 4.3", but for many users that's just too big for practical use as a cell phone...you know, the thing you put in your pocket and talk on. Consider the HTC Desire which came out as 3.7" and is one of the best devices on the market. Or consider the slightly larger 4" Samsung Galaxy S, still not 4.3"...

Also keep in mind that while RIM is hoping to keep in the entertainment and consumer market, their main target is still business users. For them, a 4.3" device is not only excessive but not practical in terms of battery usage. Many business users are on their phones a lot and when out of the office, cannot afford to charge their phones multiple times throughout the day, part of what makes an Android device (especially the 4.3" variety) impractical for business usage (although I am personally a fan of the Android platform and the units associated).

The funny thing about standards, is that they differ by user. Perhaps consider that next time before tossing out a blanket statement to cover ALL cell phone users.
