The Facebook page for the Best Buy in Grand Rapids South has sprung a leak: release dates for the HTC Thunderbolt smartphone and Motorola Xoom tablet.

Naturally, there's been much speculation as to when both of these Android-powered devices will finally hit shelves. Given that these dates were published to an actual Best Buy location's Facebook page with at least one correct date - the iPhone 4 with Verizon on February 10 - we could very well be seeing the HTC Thunderbolt in stores on February 14 followed by the Xoom tablet on February 24.

It's incredibly unlikely, no, impossible that these dates could only be for this one particular location. However, the post has been stricken from the page. Fortunately, a few screenshots made their way to the Interwebs. No prices were mentioned.

  • Feb 24? So the Xoom is going to be released WITHOUT Honeycomb?

Honeycomb is no where near release date (much less RTM) and the current version is not even beta quality.

Motorola is not going to roll out an unfinished product. The Xoom will have honeycomb when it is released.

      • You mean just like all other Moto Droids?

@memo84 Given the record, a promise for the upgrade is not a very convincing sale tactic.

I commend Motorola for actually taking time to (try to) design the product right instead of rushing out crap like all the others. But after all the BS about having honeycomb, releasing the device without the promise OS improvement is going to kill the product. Having an inferior OS that even the developer says is not good enough for tablets will just kill the brand by generating an early bad reputation.

@wackoae If they released it with the version of Honeycomb I saw during the YouTube live broadcast I'd be more than happy with it.

its possible the honeycomb could be much further along than the gingerbread which has not been pushed (officially) to most android handsets... the honeycomb devs are likely working separately from the GB devs, as honeycomb is designed especially for tablets. But you could be right, if they push out the tablets with Eclair or Froyo, things could get ugly, much like the $150 Augen GenTouch android tablets that sold like hotcakes out of target, but were almost all returned (including the one I bought) due to disgusting levels of incomplete software and support.
