Sprint's Galaxy Nexus gets official announcement, 4G LTE in tow

Summary: Sprint is joining the Galaxy Nexus party with its own version of the Samsung phone.

Sprint has finally gotten around to dropping the official announcement for its version of Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus.

The device will be the first to run on Sprint’s 4G LTE network, which will see the light of day in Dallas, Atlanta, Houston and San Antonio in the first half of the year. Joining it will be the LG Viper and the Sierra Wireless Tri-Network Hotspot, which will also offer access to Sprint’s 4G LTE network. Sprint also plans to offer improved 3G access.

News of Sprint’s Galaxy Nexus was leaked last week after advertisements for the device ran prematurely. Most of the device’s specifications are identical to those of other versions, though it’s received a modest increase in processor speed to 1.5 GHz.

Sprint is also clearly pushing Google Wallet in a big way. That’s ostensibly a direct jab at Verizon, which blocked the app in its version of the Galaxy Nexus.

now Sprint needs to upgrade their backhaul so we get better speeds than dialup...and they also need better coverage than wimax, which even here in the DFW sucks, no coverage for large spots
