Survey: Moms don't want flowers; they want iPads

Survey: Moms don't want flowers; they want iPads

Summary: A recent survey from reveals what everyone probably already knows: Moms would rather iPads over flowers.

TOPICS: iPad, Mobility

Do you love your mother enough to buy her an iPad? Probably not, if a recent survey from deal aggregation site is any indication.

According to the survey, 91% of moms said that they'd prefer an iPad over flowers for mother's day, which is probably how any logical human being would respond.

The problem - and this might be just as obvious - is that far, far fewer (12%) people said they were actually planning on buying their mothers any kind of tech gadget. In fact, at 59%, most respondents said that they didn't plan on spending any more than $50. Moreover, a not-insignificant number of respondents (19%) said they weren't getting their mothers anything at all. (Techbargains attracts quite a few cheapskates, it seems.)

In short, it looks like this: Most moms want iPads for mothers day, but pretty much all them are getting flowers or chocolates or a Halmark card. Is this is a microcosm of our general relationship with the world, viz., not getting the things we want? Probably.

In any case, file this under things that are obviously true but somehow no less depressing.

  • Wow

A survey conducted by says moms want tech instead of flowers for mother's day?! Who'd have guessed it?! But why do its results it conflict with the study by
    • My thoughts exactly!

  • Nah.......

Actually my Mom has a Samsung Galaxy tab and she is doing just fine and dandy with that. Its the 7" model and she likes the size over having to hold something big like the iPad. You know she is older and a little bit fragile these days so maybe think about the 7" models unless they have super bad vision and can't see a darn thing!
  • Actually, this is completely wrong...

They want Sony Tablet S for Mothers day. =D
  • what a joke

what was your paycheck from apple for writing this bullshit?
  • My mom doesn't want an iPad

she wants flowers. Even though I'm not saying that an iPad is not a great product.
  • My wife doesn't want one, and my mom probably doesn't either

I actually gave my wife a tablet for Christmas, but she ended up giving it back to me 3 months later. A similar thing happened years ago with a Palm. The only tech gadget gift she's actually loved is a Sandisk Clip+ mp3 player.

But my wife would rather have a plant than cut flowers.

Last paragraph: "In any case, file this under things that are obviously true but somehow no less depressing." Like this article.

Are we tried of meaningless iGadget articles? YES
  • It's a lie

They want Galaxies not some crappy Apple product!!
  • Errr.....

    You wonder:
    1) How many who voted were actually females and moms. I mean it's not a major mom hang-out. It's a techie web site. A bit more legitimate if it was from or
    2) how many actually took the survey
    3) if they were moms, who buys an iPad for a Mother's Day present?
  • Yes

I'm going to fly with this one. Ladies that you would never believe would ever attach themselves to Tech are falling HARD for Ipad's and its' cousins, all the way to Kindle. Even Penny will go for this.
  • Mom wants..

a phone call from her son, not some gizmos.
  • Mom wants

My mother would never be so vain or selfish to ask me to spend $500 - $700 on her for Mothers day, I don't know what planet you all did your survey on and apparently to did your suvey with the "Real Housewives of Rich and Famous".
