Time Warner Cable is stepping up its home cable offering and customer service with the launch of SignatureHome. All of it goes miles beyond what TWC currently provides its customer base, but if you want to enroll in this premium program, it will cost you.

Sure, there are some wireless speed upgrades for both downloading and uploading, but let's get to the biggest perk first: the home installation set-up.

If you decide to sign up for SignatureHome, you'll be assigned an appointment time as to when TWC Connections Specialists will show up at your home. (That's a specific appointment time. No waiting around for three to four hours only for the cable guy to show up at the last minute of the time frame.)

From there, the specialists will analyze your entertainment set-up in any room where you want to set up the cable boxes, whether it be the bedroom, living room, kitchen, children's room or even the "man cave." The specialists will set everything up for you, including hooking up all the wires for HDTVs, gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, etc. They'll even tie all the wires together in an orderly fashion (as pictured below), and then clean up afterwards (as seen by the dust buster in the photo to the side).

The SignatureHome service also includes a concierge service of sorts in which subscribers can call Personal Solutions Advisors on a dedicated hotline without being put on hold for hours like everyone else. And if there is a technical glitch and something needs to be fixed at home, TWC will send someone out within a day, whether it be early in the morning or late at night.

Subscribers can also look forward to a number of other perks, including being able to manage everything online (i.e. parental controls, remote DVR management, etc.) either on a computer or a smartphone. Each SignatureHome plan also comes with a pair of cable boxes hosting 500MB each, bumping up the amount of shows that can be recorded at once from two to four. Customers can buy additional cable boxes, but the pricing varies from area to area.

SignatureHome is available in all TWC markets now, starting at $199 per month. The monthly fee includes all of the installation and customer services already mentioned, the cable boxes and the basic digital cable/Internet/landline phone plan.

That $199 figure is certainly pricey, especially when you add it up for 12 months. But we all know the torture of trying just to get through to a cable company's customer service center and get an answer, let alone someone to come out to your house and fix the problem in a timely manner. If you want to make the most of your home entertainment center and have the cash to spend but not much time, then maybe this is the solution for you.

I don't find this Time-Warner offering surprising considering the changes taking place in the market. What I find surprising is that rather than increasing the value of their already-existing services, they've decided to offer a more expensive service with bigger benefits. Personally, I just got rid of my cable all toghether. I have Time-Warner *nothing* at home now and use Verizon FiOS for my Internet and phone (and hope to get rid of the home phone itself soon and go completely mobile).

Time-Warner has to compete with multipe offerings. FiOS-TV is now available for my home (but not many others in my area still), Netflix is supposed to be getting a lot more first-run movies soon, etc. I think Time-Warner is going to have to do a lot more though to keep from bleeding out more customers.

And -- I've never found Time-Warner service to be poor at all. I'm continually surprised by how good it is considering how bad the typical cable company service reputation is.

If you need a personalized tech person at your fingertips, kind of says something about the quality of the product, no?

The only thing that Time Warner is good at is raising prices.

$199 a month! After the initial setup there is no real advantage for the customer. Paying that on an ongoing basis because you may want to add or move something months later or the belief that a service person will be there at a given time is in my opinion ridiculous. Sounds like just another cash cow for TWC, all profit, no value.

Unfortunately, the way TWC's "Locked" price keeps going up I may be paying that before long anyway.

It would be a cold day in H*** before I would even begin to consider giving TW $199 a month. For that much they should include fixing my meals, washing the dishes and doing the laundry.

$199 a month in this economy!! Just to show ya how TW is out of touch as to what's going on in the REAL WORLD!

The new Time Warner SignatureHome package is more costly than the other Time Warner packages, but it essentially serves as insurance should you come across problems with your service in the future. Unfortunately, things break and need to be fixed and we can never predict when that may happen.

I still hope for the day when we can get this type of SignatureHome service without paying for this fee. It'll be great to have shortened appointment windows and appointments that show up on time.

In reality, waiting at home for appointments is actually really expensive. A company called TOA released a survey called "The Cost of Waiting." The survey found that waiting for such appointments results in an individual loss of $752 annually. As a whole, the country loses 2.78 billion hours waiting...

Until then, we'll have to pay for such service.
The whole survey is at http://toatech.com/costofwaiting/documents/TOA-Cost-of-Waiting-US.pdf.

While having a cleaner install overall and having them setup everything is nice it certainly doesn't justify the $199/mo fee. If you can't do it yourself just contract a local company to set everything up for you and save the monthly fee. The only benefit beyond the install is for service calls. Essentially you are paying for faster service because you know you will have issues with their service, not exactly a marketing plus to me.

Now if this service provided you with their top broadband service and include all the premium movie channels then maybe it would be of some value.

Well TWC is moving to do a differ package. Well I work over at DISH Network and I want to say that if you want to get the most value for that buck then DISH can do that. DISH has different levels of programming that suite everyone. DISH has the most HD channels avail. DISH also provides this package free for life. Find out how you can get these savings and value by going to the DISH website.
