Toshiba Android tablet could be here by October

Summary: There is some news regarding an Android-based tablet. But this one will be made by Toshiba, and the 10-inch slate is expected to drop soon.

There is some news regarding an Android-based tablet. But this one will be made by Toshiba, and the 10-inch slate is expected to drop soon.

According to Digitimes, Toshiba’s first tablet PC will be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor and run on Android. The exact version isn’t specified, so let’s hope for some Froyo.

More importantly, the tablet is expected to ship in either September or October, and it is predicted that 40,000-50,000 units will ship by the end of the year. Sounds like a big goal. But with the holiday season approaching, and if the specs and price are right, Toshiba could have a chance with this one.

    2011 is the year Windows Phone 7 starts doing to android on the phone what Windows did to linux on the netbook after letting it have a 100% of the market head start.

    Unlikely when Google has $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to counter anything Microsoft has. Android is a cool name... Asus needed an OS and looked outside the company for something suitable and choose Xandros Linux on the first EeePC. Windows quickly made a deal and XP replaced it. Android comes from inside Google it's their baby. see the difference.

    @Linux Geek Phew! I thought for sure you would say something Postiive about MS. Because your running about 98% accurate when you take the opposite of your pedictions. Like all of the "predictions" about Win7...

  • Give it up dude...
    Dude, I have been hearing "the year of Linux" for years now. Linux is up and coming and gathering steam with the Android OS, but Linux is still in it's infancy with becoming mainstream.

    That's a very good point. MS had to ditch the Vista brand name more because of bad publicity than any other reason. Maybe Linux would do well to ditch its brand name to gain acceptance.

    Infancy ? interesting ? So I'm using an Operating System that still needs to grow up..... Well if Linux is at the baby stage and is allowing me to do so much.... I can only image what an amazing OS it will be when it becomes an adult... thanks for the comment it made my day.... I'm posting this from an infant OS a very gifted child....

    First tablet PC? I seem to recall using their M200 five + years ago, and no doubt there were models prior to that. Presumably the word tablet has evolved to mean "like an iPad".

    I like how many people have taken to calling the iPad the FIRST tablet. People are not well informed about products though. If they were I think tablets would have been used a lot in the last decade and the iPad would have been the technological footnote it deserves to be.

    apple customers often aren't well informed, they get their information from apple advertising and think its actual fact.

    I've always thought the apple line on the mac advert which says "MAC'S DON'T GET pc VIRUS'S" was brilliant, but fantastically misleading - you don't even notice the word "pc" or register that it has such a big implication.
    Its amazing how many mac owners think they won't ever get a virus/malware/rootkit/etc, don't take any security measures, and then many as a result have been shocked to get an infection. Not the best advise apple could be giving them! - at least apple has stopped telling people to not use a anti-virus product.

    Anyway I digress; the apple tablet is certainly nothing new, whats new is the way its been presented, something apple are good at, even if their public relations skills are shot to hell.

    I find the flame wars pretty pathetic. I use Linux, Windwos and Macs on a daily basis. I don't find one more compelling than the other except mainly Windows is a pig. And I am sorry but Windows Phone 7 blows compare to Android and I develop on both.
