Toshiba may be late to the tablet game but its first mobile device running Android Honeycomb is already hitting store shelves this week, reportedly going on sale on July 10 according to Engadget.

This 10.1" slate is one of the few that come equipped with a removable battery, SD Card slot, a full-sized USB 2.0 and a microUSB port as well as an HDMI connector, in addition to the usual specs:

  • Display: Multi-touch, a high resolution widescreen, 1280×800 resolution
  • Processor: Dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 CUP
  • OS: Android Honeycomb 3.1
  • Audio: Stereo speakers
  • Camera: a 2-megapixel front camera, a 5-megapixel rear camera
  • Sensors: GPS, Gyroscope and Accelerometer
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, no cellular option
  • Dimension: 0.61? thick

It also comes pre-loaded with the same Resolution Plus software as on Toshiba laptops, which means the tablet will automatically convert standard definition movies to HD quality so they will look as good as possible on the high resolution display.

An 8 GB Thrive starts at $429.99, $479.99 for the 16 GB and the 32 GB for a hundred more at $579.99. While the difference in price between the 16 GB Wi-Fi iPad 2 and the 16 GB Thrive is only $20, the capacity of the Toshiba tablet can be expandable with just a SD Card. As with the HP TouchPads last week, you can visit your local mass retailer to see the devices for yourself. With so many tablets landing in stores one after another, no wonder retailers are rushing to renovate to better display mobile devices.
