Toshiba's glasses-free 3D TVs haven't met sales expectations

Word broke out in August that Toshiba would be unveiling some glasses-free 3D HDTVs, which came to fruition in October. Unfortunately for Toshiba, these advanced screens aren’t doing so well.

According to Bloomberg, the Tokyo-based company “sold fewer than half the sets it targeted in the initial month of sales.” Toshiba originally planned to sell 1,000 units each of the 12- and 20-inch models.

Considering that these 3DTVs aren’t exactly budget-friendly (the 20-inch screen retails for ¥240,000/$2,940), it’s not a big surprise that sales are low. Regular 3D TVs that require glasses are still getting off the ground, so it’s difficult to push a product that is so expensive and truly a luxury item. Many consumers might believe that they need a TV, even an HDTV these days. But 3D isn’t aboslutely necessary - especially at that price.

Or maybe consumers just got scared off by all the controversy surrounding Nintendo’s tiny, glasses-free panel on the 3DS.

People are scared... prices of these kind just arent exactly attractive. Its ridiculous expensive and too little to sell.
They should try monitor displays with this tech.
