Verizon Wireless is now offering the Samsung Galaxy Tab for a much lower price...with a two-year service agreement, of course.

The 7-inch Android tablet will only cost $299.99 with two years of monthly payments for 3G service. That pricing is on par with Sprint. However, you can still get the Galaxy Tab from T-Mobile with a service agreement for $249.99.

Verizon's unsubsidized price remains $499.99, which is better than AT&T's contract-free $549.99 price tag. However, just yesterday it was spotted that the unsubsidized Verizon version still requires at least a "minimum 1 month activation." One month of service might still be cheaper than AT&T's offer, but buying a tablet tangle- and hassle-free could be priceless.

    I was thinking, you could use it like a phone - speakerphone or bluetooth.

    It's kind of big though. So that got me thinking - (and I guess this wouldn't work for Verizon folks) - what about just taking my SIM card out of my ATT smart phone and popping it into a Galaxy Tab. That would be useful sometimes. The cost still needs to come down a tad more.

      @Schoolboy Bob Verizon's version of the Tab is CDMA, so no slot for a sim card. Also all Galaxy Tabs offered by North American carriers are not able to be used as a phone. It is a data device only.

        Makes you wonder why this thing is even sold at Verizon. Seems like it's just a means to get locked into a 2 year contract.

  • Just wait 1 or 2 more months.

    And they will almost be free. If other Verizon outlets are like the ones in my neighborhood, they have boxes of these things waiting to be sold. At both stores, 4 deliveries from the Red Mothership and the first delivery has yet to be fully sold.

  • Why would I pay MINIMUM of $779 for a tablet?

    $20/month for 1Gig is the minimum plan. When will the manufacturers sell these stupid things to the customer and not a wireless carrier? Offer a WIFI ONLY version that doesn't require and mandate shackling to a wireless carrier and you open up a LOT of sales. <br><br>I look forward to Samsung getting a clue by mid to late this year and, what a concept, sell directly to the consumer via Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, etc. <br><br>TripleII

    P.S. Oh yeah, and then we don't have a carrier crippled machine that supports BlueTooth and poof, you have VoIP capabilities.

      @TripleII <br><br>The thing is, the carriers were the ones buying these Tabs in stockpiles, more so than the retail chains like Best Buy (who may have just a handful in stock at a time). So Samsung's biggest customer are the carriers, who then turn around and tries to sell them to customers hoping they can get more contract lock-ins. A vicious cycle. <br><br>This is why we haven't seen WiFi only Tabs (delayed although technically there's nothing stopping them from being released). Or why we are hearing about a one month 3G requirement for the Xoom just to use WiFi. And WiFi release at a later date. The carriers like Verizon want's to milk as much as they can from consumers wanting tablets with data contracts. Not sure this is working so well.

    I refuse to buy anything that requires me selling my soul to a cell phone company. I deplore this trend of subsidizing new tech gadgets through them.

  • Clueless

    I think the telcos and the tablet OEMs are clueless if they think the anyone wants yet another subscription.

    Give me a data plan that covers voice, data and texting and I'll decide to use it for my phone, slate or PC.
