Verizon Wireless bids adieu to HTC Droid Eris

Verizon Wireless is saying goodbye to the HTC Droid Eris. The good news is that if anyone out there actually still wants one of these, it should be on the shelves for a few more months.

The low-end smartphone debuted with the original Droid, so its time was coming. This is most likely to make room for new mobile devices, primarily the Droid X and Droid 2. Or whatever else is mentioned at the big Verizon announcement later today.

There’s a lot of speculation out there that other HTC phones will be axed next. Droid-Life posits that the Droid Incredible could be on the chopping block soon based on some internal documents, but that would come as a surprise given its stellar success just last month.

Are you sad to see the Droid Eris go? Which HTC smartphone do you think will be next?

I bought my first cell phone in January after nearly a 10 year hiatus because of the HTC Eris. I love it! I'm disappointed to see it thrown out with yesterday's trash, especially after just receiving the latest Android OS. It's like a brand new phone.

Personally I liked the Eris much better than the original Droid and if I had not been locked into the BB platform due to work I'd have gotten the Eris when it came out... and it would have been a hard choice indeed between the Eris and the Incredible (mainly because the Incredible was not in stock - if it was the choice would not be as hard) when I upgraded my BB to the new Curve.
