It’s official: Verizon Wireless has nabbed itself an iPhone 4 for its arsenal of smartphones.
At a special, Steve Jobs-less event held at Lincoln Center in New York City today, CEO Lowell MacAdam announced what everyone was expecting. Thus, the announcement is a bit underwhelming. It’s still the same model currently available with AT&T - except this is a CDMA-antenna model and Verizon’s 3G network is always magically less crowded. (That could very well change with this release.)
Eager buyers who have been awaiting this day for years can start pre-ordering an iPhone 4 with Verizon on February 3. The device will ship and be avialable in Verizon stores on Februrary 10. Obviously the iPhone 4 is already in Apple Stores, but buyers can get one from those retail locations with a Verizon contract starting on February 10 too. As for pricing, it’s very familiar: $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB with the signing of a two-year service agreement and a smartphone data plan subscription. There’s also a little something about a mobile hotspot included.
No word on those unlimited data plans, but AT&T will probably start to cue the damage control commercials now.
